I don’t know if the next two to three weeks will constitute a “summer vacation” per se, but I’m going to try to pack as much fun and relaxation into those eighteen days as possible. And by “fun” and “relaxation,” I probably mean “eating” and “sleeping.”

Okay, I probably also mean running and reading, but that’s a given. Once my eyes permanently readjust to the glorious light of day and I stop looking like a mole that’s been yanked out of a fluorescently lit bunker, there will be a lot of reading going on, specifically the book pictured below:
(Photographic evidence of my big purchase at Half Price Books this past weekend — yes, I do occasionally buy books there.)

I figured that the library would never let me keep that book out for as long as it’s going to take me to read all 1100+ pages of it. Also, I hear these rumors that it’s a good read. (Plus, it could come in handy someday when I need to do some gentle biceps curls.) At any rate, there’s no way I’ll be able to haul it around campus in my dinky little messenger bag come September 24th, so there’s some motivation to get reading.

Now I’ll open up the floor to my faithful few readers because I’m curious — what book(s) are you scrambling to get read before school starts?

Ah, The Stand–great book. You’re about to embark on an epic journey.

I’m hoping to finish The Winner’s Manual by Jim Tressel and Siddhartha by Herman Hesse.

What book am I scrambling to finish before school starts? Well, I have a ton of books I’ve started or want to start that are not going to get finished before school. I will probably finish The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch before anything else, as (with all due respect) it is a fluffy sort of read and due back to the library soon. I’m not sure what’s next…A Sand County Almanac? The Death and Life of Great American Cities? What Is the What? Bleak House? I don’t know.
